Climate Change Leadership Program Phase II Sets Pace, Develops New Case Models on Effective Local Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

Members of Climate Change Cluster and CityNet Indonesia renewed their commitments to strengthen their local implementation of climate change mitigation and adaptation programs and to demonstrate new case models during the second phase of Climate Change Leadership Program (CLP) on November 6-8, 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The CLP 2, the second of a three-phase international seminar series, aims to enhance leadership and management capacities of local decision-makers and leaders while developing solutions and strategies to further mitigate the impacts of climate change.
The CLP 2 participants derived new insights from sessions on Theory U Leadership. They shared successful best practices on local climate change mitigation and adaptation in the context of solid waste, local greenhouse gases inventory, public space, and energy efficiency.
CityNet partners, C40 and CDP, presented their regional programs and new opportunities for partnership.
On the third day, participants visited Kampong Iklim (village), one of many pilot areas of Jakarta City’s project in redesigning public spaces while promoting community-based, low carbon activities among its residents.

Taking off from the success of CLP 1, CityNet Deputy Secretary General Aisa Tobing said CLP 2 is a reflection exercise as participants will develop a prototype from the best practice cases that were presented.
Participants discussed the prospects of replicating the different best practices into their own community. For example, the city of Pangkal Pinang in Indonesia said it would look into the technical aspects of the biogas implementation project of HELP-O in Galle, Sri Lanka. HELP-O, a non-government organization based in Sri Lanka, is CityNet associate member.
CityNet Deputy Secretary General Aisa Tobing hopes CLP Program will produce new set of local champions on climate change. By next year, CLP participants will present their replication success stories that have been inspired by both CLP 1 and 2 programs.
