‘Right to Voice’ Project
‘Right to Voice’ Project is very important for community development in Sri Lanka. But this project is developed to increase public participation in Local Government authorities. Project team selected 10 local government authorities as a sample for the project.
Project Objectives-
•To establish a broad-based inclusive campaign to bring in participation, transparency and accountability to public decision making processes in local authorities.
•To establish 20 local level watchdog forums to demand transparency and accountability from local governance.
Following successful outputs were gained by the HELPO using this project.
- Established 5000 active citizen groups in Galle district to observe the local governance process while promoting civil society participation.
- Printed 1,500 orientation manuals
- Conducted Orientation workshops
- Established a “Right to Voice” 100 people’s campaign task force groups for development planning and public budgeting at LA level.
- Printed 1000 monitoring tools for two task force groups
- Conducted 02 training programs on monitoring tools and manuals
- Conducted 32 Input sharing sessions
- Conducted 16 Public hearings
