Access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) is essential for improving public health and environmental sustainability. Erika Valder, a dedicated volunteer from the University of Paderborn in Germany, worked with HELP-O in Sri Lanka to address key challenges in waste management and sanitation. During her six-week stay, she engaged with local communities, shared insights on waste policies, and contributed to securing funding for ongoing projects. Additionally, she supported educational initiatives by teaching English and German while also assisting with social media improvements. Erika’s experience highlights the impact of international volunteers in promoting sustainable development and cultural exchange.
